Introduction to the Certificate in Assessing

This qualification is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in
environments other than the work environment (for example a workshop, classroom or other training
environment) and occupational competence in an individual’s work environment. It includes the
following assessment methods:

  • assessments of the learner in simulated environments
  • skills tests
  • oral and written questions
  • assignments
  • projects
  • case studies
  • recognising prior learning
  • observation of performance in the work environment
  • examining products of work
  • questioning the learner
  • discussing with the learner
  • use of others (witness testimony)
  • looking at learner statements

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to widen their career pathway and skill set within
their chosen sector through assessing.  The objective of this qualification is to assess the candidate assessor’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices that underpin assessment.

Entry requirements for the Certificate in Assessing

This qualification is open to all (learners must be 19 years old or over) and have occupational and technical competence in the areas that they wish to assess.

How wil you learn on the Certificate in Assessing

Learners will do a blended learning option of study.  The course duration is expected to last 3-5 months.

All Learners are supported with:

  • Manual
  • Workshop Days
  • Tutor phone and e-mail support

Learners will attend 3 weekday workshop days to achieve this Certificate. 

After attending workshop days you will shadow experienced CMS assessors in your vocational area and gather evidence required for your portfolio of evidence.

How can I pay for my Certificate in Assessing

Learners may pay in full via Cheque or Card.

Alternatively a 30% deposit can be paid and you will be sent resources and a tutor will contact you.

The remaining balance can be paid via:

  • Monthly standing orders
  • Settled balance 4 weeks prior to the start of the workshop days

Certificate in Assessing qualification structure and assessment

This qualification comprises of 3 mandatory units:

Unit 1- Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

  • Worksheet

Unit 2 - Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

  • Portfolio of evidence

Unit 3 - Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

  • Portfolio of evidence

Successful achievement of all 3 units must be achieved for the full qualification

Progressions from the Certificate in Assessing

  • This qualification provides progression to Level 4 qualifications in internal quality assurance for learners who wish to further their knowledge and skills and become internal or lead internal verifiers.
  • Become an External Verifier for an Awarding Body in your area of work
  • Additional CPD in your industry / sector  

Qualification achieved and REPs information

REPs L3
  • Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
  • It is also recognised by The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3
