Course Details

When you enroll on the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training you will receive your joining instructions and welcome email via email giving you access to your learning resources.

Throughout the course your experienced personal-tutorwill support you to ensure you have a clear action plan to ensure full participation with your learning and provide guidance on what work needs to be completed and by when, to ensure that you can successfully complete your course.

The Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training is divided into units that allows a logical and progressive order providing you with a structure that is easy to follow. Our interactive high-quality resources include elearning, pre-recorded webinars, live webinars, Augmented Reality, PDF manuals, editable worksheets, tutor demo worksheets, tutor demo videos, mock exams and knowledge checkers.

The units include:

Unit 1 Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness (F/615/4012)

  • Online 40 question multiple-choice exam.  The pass mark is 28 / 40 (70%) and you have 1 hour 30 minutes to complete it.

You can sit your exam either:

  • Face-to-face at CMS premises on an agreed assessment date/time
  • Online on a date/time of your choosing via remote proctor software (please note there is an additional fee of £25 for a remote exam)

You can sit your exam either:

You can re-sit an exam as many times as needed, however CMS Fitness Courses has a responsibility to ensure that teaching and learning occur in between each exam to promote learner development and quality of delivery. Re-sit fees are £25 per exam.

Unit 2 The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health (J/615/4013)

  • Assignment – Infographic and educational information handout

Unit 4 Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients (Y/615/4016)

  • Assignment – Recommending the use of technology to clients

Unit 5 Programme design and delivery for personal training (H/615/4018)

  • A client consultation – modular summative observation. The client consultation is assessed by a CMS tutor via a video recorded submission.
  • A food diary analysis
  • A client education activity – you will need to design an educational activity
  • A periodised programme including commentary/rationales and individual session plans
  • A modular summative observation* – Training techniques. The training techniques observation is assessed by a CMS tutor via a video recorded submission.
  • A summative observed session – Personal training. The Personal Training observation is assessed by a CMS tutor via a video recorded submission.
  • Self-evaluation and reflective practice worksheet

Unit 6 Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers (D/615/4020)

  • Assignment – Developing a new personal training business

Diploma in Personal Training worksheet

This forms part of the assessment for the following units:

  • The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health (J/615/4013)
  • Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions (R/615/4015)
  • Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients (Y/615/4016)

It is expected that the Level 3 Diploma in Personal trainer will take up to 6-9 months to complete, depending on how many hours you complete per week and your rate of learning.

To enroll on the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training you need to:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Hold a suitable Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing
    The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
  • There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and maths involved, so learners should have basic skills in communication and maths pitched at level 2 (as a minimum).

In addition, to complete the 100% online pathway you will:

  • Complete the course over a duration and speed that suits you

  • Learning can be completed in your own time and at your own pace but the attendance of some live webinar sessions is required
