CMS Fitness Courses catches up with ex-student and current fitness professional Dewi Ferrero as he explains his career pathway after his attendance on our Leve 3 Corrective Exercise Specialist and L3 Sports Massage course.
Dewi set up a gym in Caernarfon, North Wales as the natural next step to his career working in gyms and as a personal trainer. Vibe Fitness is a 1,500 square foot gym which offers many training options and classes including Insanity, Group-X and Strength and Conditioning.
The gym also offers sports massage, a skill Dewi learnt and perfected on the CMS Fitness Training Sports Massage course, which Dewi attended for 8 days at CMS’ base in Batley, West-Yorkshire.
Dewi had completed a corrective exercise course with CMS a few years earlier and was so impressed that when he wanted to complete more training, he knew CMS would provide an excellent course – which they did. Both courses were delivered by CMS Fitness’ Hadyn Luke.
“Sports massage has been the keystone of everything I’ve done before – I qualified as a personal trainer in 2003 and completed the corrective exercise course with CMS, then the sports massage course brought it all together, resulting in me realising my ambition of having my own gym.”
Commenting on the CMS course, Dewi said: “I could have attended a sports massage course in Manchester or Liverpool, but I went back to CMS as I knew the quality of the courses they offered – and I can honestly say, having been on a lot of courses in my career, that this was one of the best. They go over and above what is expected and that’s why I went back. The teacher was fantastic and the amount and range of content we covered in the time was excellent.”
Dewi is now a trained sports therapist and offers sports massage from his gym, Vibe Fitness. Vibe Fitness offers monthly membership, pay as you go access and ten-session tickets. The gym opened in October 2015 and had 20 members in its first month, with many more attending through ‘pay as you go’ which is made easier through an app which allows people to book through their phones whether they are members or it’s their first visit. Vibe Fitness is the first gym in the area to use the app and it is proving extremely popular.
As well as opening his own gym, Dewi also works for the local authority in a sports centre as well as offering sports massage. After training with CMS, the turning point for Dewi was being the sports masseur for a team who were completing 6 marathons in 6 months for charity and took Dewi along to give them pre and post-marathon sports massages. Word of mouth spread and Dewi hasn’t looked back – from giving 3 treatments a month, Dewi now delivers over 6 treatments a week, as well as running the gym and working full-time. In the New Year Dewi plans to go part-time at the local authority sports centre and continue to build Vibe Fitness and his sports massage business.
CMS Fitness Courses offer courses in ranging from Level 2 Gym Instructor Courses up to and including Level 3 Personal Trainer Courses, Level 4 Lower Back Pain and Level 4 Obesity and Diabetes.
